My aim with Stratum was to create a “feel good” artwork. Whilst the extracted shapes follow regular repetition and help to generate a sense of security in the viewer, the composition of the layers creates a refreshed pattern that also delivers playfulness. This orderly playfulness can strike an interesting visual.
Considering the colours, teals and turquoises contribute energy and can bring about a feeling of motivation while the saturated orange can infuse positivity. Pink and mauve hues have been introduced to provide contrast to the high energy colours, softening and balancing the piece.
The work can inject a liveliness into a space, making it feel invigorated. Its ideal placement would be in an “energetic” space or where you’d like to feel a “spring in your step.”
